What is MASSAGE THERAPY?

back-massage-sq-300Massage is a treatment of manipulating the soft tissues (or muscles) of the body to bring about a positive change; a reduction of stress or pain within the body, enhancing health and overall wellbeing. Treatment is primarily manual (hands on) and there are many techniques that are used during the visit such as stroking, kneading, gliding, percussion, friction, vibration, compression, passive or active stretching within the normal anatomical range of movement, effleurage, petrissage or tapotement.

Massage does not include the diagnosis of a specific pathology, the prescription of drugs or controlled substances, spinal manipulation or physical therapy; they are outside the scope of massage therapy. This type of therapy has been in the past considered a luxury but in today’s holistic world it is embraced as an alternative medical treatment and considered real medicine.
